Late game lag, and odd bugs creep up quicker than other games when you start to dig deep. If you are familiar with other paradox titles, the game might look less complicated especially on the diplomacy side of things. I cannot give an unbiased opinion. It's a cool game and I want to like it but gameplay-wise, it fucking sucks. If you want to play the galactic empire of your dreams, go ahead and buy Stellaris. I could go on with the list, but worst of all Paradox is wasting their time on cute species portraits, silly story packs about space dragons and the like as well as another disfunctional late game disaster in awakening fallen empires and their horrifically buggy and unrewarding war in heaven. All in all, buy the game. But if you're willing to wait, it may go on sale for even less later on. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. It depends on what you are looking for in a game. The game could improve a lot, and become a really great game, personally I would not buy the game right now if you have other games to play. r/Stellaris: A place to share content, ask questions and/or talk about the 4X grand strategy game Stellaris by Paradox Development Studio. Yes. I've said this before many times but in literally every game so far, I've had a point I reached at which I couldn't force myself to play any longer due to bugs or some game mechanics. If you are planning on getting it now would be the chance with the sale. Decided to stop playing back at Clarke patch and I just picked it up again along with Leviathan. Even the basic warfare doesn't work. AI empires don't even respond to most of the new events. i really enjoy it with the right mods, but even the base game is good. It's not as if there aren't any issues that are heatedly debated on this sub time and time again. It would be 7/10 if half of them at least worked... but they don't. And unless you're prepared to shell out hundreds of dollars worth for DLC, you won't even get a complete game. 1/10. As a devouring swarm I find your choice of words too extreme. I completely agree. I have 1300 Hours and I agree. For reference i have 100ish hours in the witcher 3 and consider the $100 i dropped on it well worthwhile. And I don't mean in the cool, share-the-story-with-your-friends EUIV way where you might have an epic war with monsters like France or Austria that you can't possibly win but have so much fun anyway. This is a game that is about telling a great, interactive story about an empire you created with it's own ethics and values being thrust onto the galactic stage with dozens, of other alien species with their own values and goals. Or playing for 200 years only for the game to drop a crisis on you with 10 times your fleet power that will always outpace your ability to construct better ships. And in stellaris, you can have up to 8 armies as your frontline in a world of the size of Earth, and up to 10 in a 25 size world. I downloaded some mods, modded those to suit my needs and quite frankly i'm having fun. It fails in all its aspects. There are still times when you'll catch yourself just... waiting for something to do, but overall it's better at that than it was at launch where you could really just set the game to run and go afk from about 100 years in until the crisis popped up. The "worth it?" Now that i have some money, i wanted to try to get it with the dlc's to see if it improved. Posted by 1 year ago. So if you are looking for a well-paced 4X with a definite ending to your game, look elsewhere (such as the Civ series or Endless space 2). Much better than when I left it, definitely. It fails in all its aspects. But if you have a long history of 4x or grand strat gaming and are looking a new challenge with rich game systems full of depth and strategy, this isn't it. I just want to address your last point because I don't think it's fair - people who develop cute portraits probably don't, and can't, work on fixing bugs and programming stuff that we're interested in, especially on the higher level design like economy complexity or diplomacy. For players with grand strategy or strong 4x backgrounds, stellaris is extremely shallow. There have been many improvements since the original launch of the game, but it's still got a ways to go. Game performance is still terrible in late game as soon as you start ordering fleets around. But it doesn't seem stellaris is getting any better for players looking for a strategic experience any time soon. I've got only <100h, but I really enjoy the game - both the economic, military and space side. And furthermore, the DLC is just an addition to already existing endgame crises that were very weak since Stellaris' release, and I really feel like I had to pay them to fix something that was lackluster since its design. r/Stellaris: A place to share content, ask questions and/or talk about the 4X grand strategy game Stellaris by Paradox Development Studio. It changed, but not enough or in the right places. The quests (events) you will encounter are interesting and there are many easter eggs. Consider that it will almost certainly be cheaper a year or two down the line. If you want a more competitive eu4 in space type grand strategy game nope it's much less complex. Oh and don't forget about old events that are impossible to finish most of the time (precursor search) or events that spawn the rewards in inaccessible enemy territory... AI? Get all the dlc as well. It's all down to how much you value your own money though. Wars are fun if you like fighting and occupying half a galaxy for 2-3 planets (mind planets, not systems). If you had a problem shaking the idea that the other empires in the game were just programs going through the motions then you probably won't find any change. By using our Services or clicking I agree, you agree to our use of cookies. They are completely unable to respond to new threats like awakened empires or war in heaven. The potential for a really good game is there, and the first time you start a game and explore out from your first star system, discovering all sorts of quests and random alien empires, I think you'll love it. I highly recommend you do get it. Otherwise this game is brilliant imo. im not the best at the game, but im pretty good. This will this will Make you enjoy the game that much more. Out of 3 basic weapon categories there is exactly one that's worth fitting on your ships because it's superior in practically every way. So if you are looking for a well-paced 4X with a definite ending to your game, look elsewhere (such as the Civ series or Endless space … r/stellarisgame: Join the main community at [/r/stellaris](http://www.reddit.com/r/stellaris)! Trade, diplomacy, intra empire management. Universe still feels kinda dead. Some stuff has changed for the better and there's slightly more to do than before, but not enough has changed yet imo. 250+ stellaris hours so far. They're typically mediocre to solid at launch and over the next 4-5 years they'll become great games due to patches and DLC. If you know how to mod stuff the game can become very nice, but as far as vanilla goes i'd skip it too. It's something you can play through once or twice to see the events, realize they are just a dice roll between giving you stuff or fucking you over, and realize it has none of the allure of traditional strategy games.
